The National Handloom Day celebrated by the Artisans of Self Help Group (SHGs) at Common Facility Centre of G.orchiga Traditional Handloom Cluster
To memorialize the Artisans hard work in their looms Women Development Centre (WDC) in collaboration with District Development Manager (DDM) Shri Amlan Tamuli NABARD, celebrated the National Handloom Day at Common Facility Centre (CFC) in Gelahati village under Nowboicha Block in the district of North Lakhimpur on dated 11th August 2021.
The aim was to create awareness about handlooms & recognize the weavers’ community of their contribution to their families, locality & India’s socio-economic development was highlighted by Ms. Bhagyawati Bhuyan the Project Director of WDC, Guwahati.
The program is observed through a virtual platform. Shri Baiju Kurup, Chief General Manager, NABARD, welcomed Dr. Jayanta Dev Sarma Dy Director, DoH&T, GoA, Smti. Niva Rani Gayan, Lecturer, Indian Institute of Handloom Technology, Guwahati & all the participants who joined online. Dr. Jayanta Dev Sarma highlighted the contribution of handloom in Assam, commercial prospects and challenges & the Adoption of Modern Technology in the Handloom Sector in Assam was explained by Smti Niva Rani Gayan. There was sharing from the participants. Members from North Lakhimpur & Nalbari shared a few of their problems & asked about the various schemes from the Handloom department which are meant for the artisans through SHGs. Total 6 artisans & 4 WDC staff were present during the event.
